We are a small, high-end advisory firm that specialises in helping our clients manage an organic growth and innovation agenda. While our research clearly shows that organic growth is a key issue on most CEO agendas, many mature organisations struggle to get traction on this challenge.
At one level this reflects a natural tendency for success to reinforce the status quo (repeat the basis of past achievements). However sooner or later it is reasonable to expect that “more of the same” will lead to pedestrian or eroding results, especially if an industry is undergoing significant change.
A combination of creative inventiveness and commercial acumen is needed to break out of this bind. Fast, “doable” innovation is the key to developing new products, services, brands and businesses ahead of the competition. While a pipeline of these new growth initiatives has to be crafted from creative ideas, they must also be anchored to sound strategic foundations and robust commercial considerations.
At another level, accelerating growth points to the tension between managing a core business efficiently while simultaneously nurturing and supporting new opportunities.
- Established organisations are typically designed for large scale production or service delivery and, as such, they develop systems, processes, structures and metrics for optimising a mature business rather than fast moving start-up initiatives
- As a consequence, growth initiatives often lose momentum because they are starved of resources; stifled by an inflexible corporate infrastructure; or lost amid competing priorities and inconsistent sponsorship
At thinkGROWTH we believe that growth and innovation can be systematically managed to overcome these difficulties. We work with clients to identify, develop and act on profitable growth opportunities and game-changing strategic initiatives.
